Latest trends of the 2024 Milan Fair
One of the world's largest and most inspiring design events, Salone del Mobile, the furniture fair in Milan, presented the pinnacle of furniture and interior design innovations in 2024. The trends appearing at the exhibition are not only relevant in terms of furniture, but also in the use of materials, colors and sustainability solutions.
And what were the most exciting trends this year?
Sustainability in materials and in the production process
Environmentally friendly solutions received special attention at the exhibition. Recycled materials such as bioplastics, wood from sustainable farming and textiles made with low water use have been very popular. Designers now take into account not only the function of the furniture, but also its entire life cycle during the design. The production processes are also becoming greener, reducing the ecological footprint. We often come across products that are not only made of nearly 100% recycled material, but can also be fully reused at the end of their life cycle.
Curved shapes and organic design
The rise of organic shapes continues: the soft, curved lines of furniture and interior design elements have become dominant. Rounded shapes inspired by nature, limestone and marble surfaces appeared everywhere, from seating furniture to kitchen counters and bathroom cabinets.
Earth and desert color palette and textures
In terms of colors, earth and desert colors such as sand, ocher, and terracotta ruled. These colors evoke the palette of desert landscapes. The designers supplemented these with some dark blue, dark green, and yellow color spots without striking accents. The trend towards muted earth tones reflected a desire for simplicity and natural beauty. In addition, the playfulness of the textures became more prominent: bouclé materials and more structured upholstery dominated, and in the elegant spaces, velvet was now found in a matte version. Limestone and marble in all its shades, as well as metallic surfaces, are still popular, especially in the design of dining tables, storage tables and worktops, especially in combinations that create a modern and timeless effect at the same time.
The meeting of technology and functionality
New technological solutions were also introduced, such as smart furniture and modular systems. These solutions target the needs of modern homes, where space is multifunctional and innovation contributes to a more comfortable lifestyle.
