The trends of the 2024 Valencia Furniture Fair, or the warm minimalism

In recent years, the main focus has been on sustainability, environmentally friendly solutions and durability. Consumers are increasingly looking for furniture that is in line with their values in addition to their desired style. In an era where our living and working spaces often overlap, the demand for ergonomic design and comfort is also becoming stronger.

Attracting more than 600 exhibitors and thousands of visitors, the furniture fair Feria Hábitat in Valencia offers an exclusive overview of how Spanish brands are responding to these trends.

Sustainable design and environmentally friendly materials

Environmental awareness and sustainability are no longer just a trend but a basic requirement in the furniture industry. Exhibitors at Feria Habitat 2024 are clearly committed to the use of recycled, recyclable and low environmental impact materials, with collections dominated by FSCG-certified wood, recycled plastics and sustainable fabrics.

Circular product design is a recurring concept, the pieces are designed to be easily disassembled and recycled at the end of their life cycle. Priority is given to eco-friendly paints and coatings, as well as low-energy manufacturing processes. Innovations such as Andreu World's BIO thermopolymer materials or Crevin textile factory's fabrics, which are made from 100% natural, degradable materials, represent a new level of environmental protection. Young brands such as Creavalo make furniture from recycled textiles that come from a circular production process.

Natural materials and organic style - less is more, but also with a heart!

At the fair, it was observed that minimalism has now turned into an interior with a warmer atmosphere and comfort. Function have become important even in simple lines. The inspiration of nature is strongly present, with wood, rattan and other natural materials that radiate warmth and tranquility. Organic shapes and earthy colors transform the interiors into friendly, relaxing places. Earth colors dominate, sand color, terracotta, warm brown, beige shades, complemented by cactus and olive green or deeper blue colors. The spaces radiate subtle harmony and warmth.

Sculptural and organic furniture forms

In every piece there were curved or rounded lines, as if rectangles, straight lines or square shapes had disappeared from the surface of the earth. Circular, oval or rounded edge dining tables, round or elliptical coffee tables, headboards, and thousands of curved sofas and armchairs dominated 90% of the stands.

Outdoor furniture and social spaces

The inspiration of the Mediterranean lifestyle can be felt in the indoor use of outdoor furniture. There are more and more models of the so-called IN and OUT furniture in every manufacturer's collection. These pieces of furniture can be used both indoors and outdoors. The materials of outdoor sofas are now almost as soft as those of their indoor counterparts. It is not unusual to use outdoor furniture indoors in open livingroom spaces. Examples include Vondom's Milos, Tulum or Tablet collections. Since COVID, patios and outdoor furniture have been given more emphasis in extending the living space and the home outside. This trend continues, all manufacturers place great emphasis on sophisticated outdoor collections.

Modular and multifunctional solutions

Modular furniture has also come to the fore. These innovations not only serve to make optimal use of small spaces, but also provide creative freedom.

Textiles and carpets

A separate section was dedicated to fabrics, tapestries and rugs at the fair. In addition to the latest generation (recycled, self-cleaning or stain-resistant) fabrics, some carpets attracted attention with designs that went beyond the usual forms.

Natural materials – marble, limestone, wood, metal, resin-based materials

In the case of dining and coffee tables in particular, one can discover the tendency of using stone, marble or ceramic tops and heavy, sculptural legs instead of the traditional woods. All of these are typically also in earth tones.

The rebirth of handicrafts

Another strong trend of Habitat 2024 is the return to craftsmanship. In contrast to mass production, many designers have decided to favor handmade products again, saving these traditional techniques but using them with a contemporary twist. An example is Expormim's Cadenza collection , which combines the elegance of traditional rattan with modern lines.

The 2024 Valencia Furniture Fair clearly showed that the future of the furniture industry points in the direction of naturalness, sustainability and technological innovation.

The fair proved that the Spanish furniture industry plays a leading role in shaping global trends and it is worth paying attention to!
